The Rev. Sharon D. Moore
A Biography
Rev. Sharon D. Moore is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Moore is the Assistant Pastor of the Historic Ebenezer AME Church where her husband, Rev. Dr. Byron C. Moore, is the Pastor. She has founded and gives leadership to the church’s first women’s ministry, E.A.G.L.E.S. (Expectations As God Leads Each Sister), which focuses on cultivating women’s individual spiritual lives through regular enrichment sessions; retreats; group sessions; and worship services, thereby resulting in growth that equips women for mental, emotional, physical, and financial development and prosperity. Rev. Moore has been recognized and honored by the Michigan Chronicle for her leadership and active participation in the religious community. She has also been honored by the National Coalition of Women In Ministry with the Esther Award for leadership and ministry in the church and community.
Rev. Moore is the former Assistant Pastor of St. James AME Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. While at St. James, where her husband was the Pastor, she led and founded the E.A.G.L.E.S. Women's Ministry; facilitated music workshops and instituted a new choir, the Shekinah Chorale, which she directed for one year and served as its Ministry Advisor. Outside of St. James, Rev. Moore was the Coordinator of Women In Ministry for the Saint Paul-Minneapolis District of the AME Church and was a member of the Executive Board for the African Methodist Episcopal Women In Ministry of the Chicago Annual Conference. In the community, Rev. Sharon was hired by the St. Paul Public Schools as a contractual advisor to young ladies who had been faced with personal as well as academic challenges. In that capacity, through counseling and life skills training, numerous young ladies were motivated to graduate from high school and pursue a college education. She was a guest speaker at the local seminary, Luther Seminary, regarding the effect of women in ministry in Christian churches. She also served as a volunteer for the St. Paul Public Schools and mentored young people at Cleveland and Humboldt Middle Schools through the Chosen to Achieve Mentorship Program, which serves to improve the academic performance of African American students. As a result of Rev. Moore’s active participation in the community, the St. Paul City Council acknowledged the work of her and her husband by designating October 18th as Rev. Byron & Rev. Sharon Moore Day in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Rev. Moore has been a sought after preacher by various churches across denominational lines. In many instances, she has had the distinct pleasure of being the only woman out of many male preachers to minister at week long revivals and in other venues.
Rev. Sharon’s dedication to service has not been limited to the church, as she is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and served as a sponsor of AKA Teens, a community service teen group sponsored by the sorority.
Reverend Sharon Moore is a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Systems Economics & Management. She also possesses a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.
Professionally, Rev. Moore worked for Eisai Pharmaceutical as a medical sales representative. In this capacity, she received numerous awards for exceeding sales quotas and a district acknowledgment for “best practice ideas” for selling to physicians. While working at Eisai she provided the medication, Aricept, for patients who suffer with Alzheimer’s disease. Rev. Sharon believes that this job deepened her compassion for those who are suffering and increased her faith in the healing power of God.
She is married to the Rev. Dr. Byron C. Moore. Together, they are the blessed parents of three beautiful children; Candace Desiree, Chloe Dominique and Caleb Darius. Rev. Sharon knows that the Lord placed her husband in her life as a companion, confidant and co-laborer in love, life and ministry. She is also convinced that through the relationship she is cultivating with her children, she is discovering new meaning to the unconditional love that the Lord shows us. Outside of accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she feels that her husband and children are four of her biggest blessings!
