The Rev. Sharon D. Moore

A Biography

Rev. Sharon D. Moore is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving in the Michigan Annual Conference of the 4th Episcopal District.  Before and after being ordained, Rev. Moore has served very actively in various leadership capacities in the church.

Rev. Moore is the Assistant Pastor of Ebenezer AME Church where her husband, Rev. Byron C. Moore, is the Pastor. She has founded the church’s first women’s ministry, E.A.G.L.E.S. (Expectations As God Leads Each Sister), which focuses on helping women confront their own personal concerns, thereby equipping them to reach out to other women on a mass level. She also gives leadership to the Commission on Membership and Evangelism, focusing in on the spreading of God's Word to potential new Christians and members of the faith who seek a deeper understanding of the message of Christ.

Rev. Moore is the former assistant pastor at St. James AME Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.  While at St. James where her husband was the pastor, she led and founded the E.A.G.L.E.S. Women's Ministry, facilitated music workshops and instituted a new choir, the Shekinah Chorale, which she directed for one year and served as its Ministry Advisor. Outside of St. James, Rev. Moore was the Coordinator of Women In Ministry for the Saint Paul-Minneapolis District of the AME Church and was a part of the Executive Board for the African Methodist Episcopal Women In Ministry of the Chicago Annual Conference.

In the community, Rev. Sharon was hired by the St. Paul Public Schools as a contractual advisor to young ladies who have been faced with personal as well as academic challenges. In that capacity, through counseling and life skills training, numerous young ladies were motivated to graduate from high school and pursue a college education. She was a guest speaker at the local seminary, Luther Seminary, regarding the effect of women in ministry in Christian churches. She has also served as a volunteer for the St. Paul Public Schools and mentored young people at Cleveland and Humboldt Middle Schools through the Chosen to Achieve Mentorship Program, which serves to improve the academic performance of African American students.

In her formal ministerial capacity she served as an associate minister at Oak Grove AME Church in Detroit, Michigan and an assistant to her husband when he was the Youth Pastor there. In her capacity as an associate minister at Oak Grove, Rev. Sharon was very active in the work of the local ministry. Rev. Moore served as a spiritual liaison for the Women’s Day Journey; chairperson of the Women’s Convocation; chairperson of the Come Home For Christmas Ministry Outreach Project; a chaplain of the Genesis Choir; and co-facilitator and teacher of the Solid Rock Café, a teen Bible Study that presented the Biblical text with a contemporary application.Rev. Moore has been a sought after preacher by various churches across denominational lines. In many instances, she has had the distinct pleasure of being the only woman out of many male preachers to minister at week long revivals and in other venues. In her own denomination, she was afforded the privilege of being one of five to preach at the 4th Episcopal District’s first Young Adult Network Service. Rev. Sharon was honored to be the only woman to preach at this service. Rev. Moore was also blessed to be one of thirty women who ministered at the 10th Episcopal District’s International Women’s Convocation held in Dallas, TX. Rev. Sharon ministered to women who came from throughout the U.S, Africa and Caribbean islands during this historic conference.

Rev. Sharon’s dedication to service has not been limited to the church, as she is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and served as a sponsor of AKA Teens, a community service teen group sponsored by the sorority.

Reverend Sharon Moore is a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in Food Systems Economics & Management. She also possesses a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.

Professionally, Rev. Moore has worked for Eisai Pharmaceutical as a medical sales representative. In this capacity, she received numerous awards for exceeding sales quotas and a district acknowledgment for “best practice ideas” for selling to physicians. While working at Eisai she provided the medication, Aricept, for patients who suffer with Alzheimer’s disease. Rev. Sharon believes that this job deepened her compassion for those who are suffering and increased her faith in the healing power of God.

Rev. Moore has an innate ability and conviction to witness to the lost, show love for the least and compassion for the less fortunate. This passion is one that is exercised regularly when Rev. Moore trains and directs the Evangelism Ministry at her local church. Her desire to see people saved has convicted her to minister to numerous people in various public settings; as the Holy Spirit leads her, and offer them the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

She is a proud wife and the mother of two daughters, Candace Desiree and Chloe Dominique Moore, and one son, Caleb. Rev. Sharon knows that the Lord placed her husband in her life as a companion, confidant and co-laborer in love, life and ministry. She is also convinced that through the relationship she is cultivating with her children, she is discovering new meaning to the unconditional love that the Lord shows us. Outside of accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she feels that her husband and children are four of her biggest blessings.
